The town of Almancil is surroundings by hotels, holiday villas and apartments, tourist developments, golf courses, sandy beaches, shops and restaurants. It is the commercial and service centre for the mainly the two nearby important and luxury holiday residential estates, the Quinta do Lago and the Vale do Lobo. To the east of the town on the EN 125 is the chapel of Sao Lourenco de Matas which is probably the most beautiful decorated monuments in the Algarve region. The interior of the church is covered with 18th century tiles with of the story of the martyr named St. Laurentius. Virtually next door is the Centro Cultural de Sao Lourenco that was opened in 1981. This sizable property with a large garden has a permanent exhibition of paintings and sculptures by artists from the 20th and 21st centuries.
Near to Almancil is the Estadio Algarve, a football stadium that was used in the Euro 2004 and is now the home of both Louletano DC and SC Farense, and also it is occasionally used for charity and other matches. To the west of Almancil is the Karting Almancil providing a race track, kids entertainment, and paintball area. This area is very popular for its selection of golf courses which are to be found either in Quinta do Lago Resort or the Vale do Lobo Resort. In the former there are the 18-hole Laranjal Course, the 18-hole Pinheiros Altos Course, the 18-hole Quinta do Lago North Course, the 18-hole Quinta do Lago South Course and the 18-hole San Lorenzo Course. In Vale do Lobo Resort there are the 18-hole Ocean Course and the 18-hole Royal Course.
