The small area of Fonte Santa lies to the east of the town of Quarteira in the Algarve. It takes its name from a natural spring that has long ago been attributed with healing properties by the local residents. In the more recent past the locals drifted away from this idea and started to use the spring water tank for washing their family clothes. However, the local authorities stepped in 1969 banning this practice and placed a notice declaring that the spring had medicinal properties.
The area which is mainly covered with a pine forest that now includes many luxury holiday homes.
