The area of Vale do Garrao is located to the east and between the Vale do Lobo Resort and The Quinta do Lago Resort in the Algarve. The beach cliffs have become sandy dunes covered by local vegetation and backed by pine tree forest. The valley to the west of Garrao formed the locally named Golden Pond Dunes which is now a luxury holiday development named Dunas Douradas. The east valley is named Pond Garrao. Both wetlands are freshwater which area a rarity on the Algarve coast and very attractive to waterfowl.
