Armacao de Pera is located on the beachfront and originally was named Pera de Baixo. It is a popular tourist town destination with its fine sandy beach, hotels, holiday apartments, cafes, restaurants and tourist shops. Armacao de Pera is located in front of a broad bay that stretches from Ponte da Gale to Senhora da Rocha. The names of its most popular local beaches are Praia dos Pescadores, Fishermans beach, Praia Grande and Beijinhos beach. Inside the town on the shorefront there is a small 17th century Fort with its Chapel.

To the east of the town is still a large unspoilt area named Lagoa de Salgados which acts a perfect nature reserve for migrating birds. Also, to the west of the Armacao de Pera is the promontory named Nossa Senhora da Rocha with a small charming 15th century Chapel and its defending walls. To the north and within easy driving distance are the 18-hole Christy OConnor Golf Course and the 18-hole Nick Faldo Golf Course. Within a short drive on the EN 125 near Guia is the popular Zoomarine with its sea-life attractions and amusement park. Also, on the same road on the other side of Guia is the large commercial area with its shopping mall, cinemas, and bowling.
