The village of Algos named after a Asian tribe has been changed in recent times to be spelt as Algoz. It has grown in size from a very small hamlet when the railway lines were extended from the north to the Algarve in 1889 and the local station of Tunes became a connection point to the Lisbon. It is about 7 kilometres to the north from the coastal town of Armacao de Pera. The village holds several events during the year, and the best known is the largest monthly market in the central Algarve. It is spread over a large area located to the side of the village hall. In the centre of Algoz sit four granite grinding stones which were formerly used in the production of olive oil.
About 1 kilometre from Algoz heading towards Ferrerias on the EN 269 road tea shop called Quinta dos Avos (see Photos) with a Horse Cart Museum offering free admission but only open on Saturdays. The tea shop is open everyday except Tuesdays, from 2pm until 7pm.
